Barcelona–El Prat Airport (BCN) has two terminals, T1 and T2, so check your arrival terminal before choosing transport. For most visitors staying near the center, the Aerobús is the simplest option; the train is usually the best value if you arrive at T2.
Main transport options
Aerobús: easiest for central Barcelona
Aerobús services depart from both terminals and run to Plaça de Catalunya, with central stops including Plaça d’Espanya and Universitat. The journey generally takes 30–40 minutes, depending on traffic.
- A1 serves Terminal 1.
- A2 serves Terminal 2.
- Tickets are sold online, at airport machines, or from staff.
- Aerobús requires its own ticket; regular Barcelona public-transport tickets generally do not cover it.
This is the most convenient choice for accommodation near Plaça Catalunya, La Rambla, the Gothic Quarter, or Eixample.
Train: economical, especially from T2
The R2 Nord commuter train leaves from Terminal 2 and stops at useful city stations such as:
- Barcelona Sants
- Passeig de Gràcia
- El Clot-Aragó
Trains generally run about every 30 minutes, and the trip to Passeig de Gràcia takes roughly 25–30 minutes. If you land at T1, use the free airport shuttle bus to reach the T2 train station.
The train is especially useful if you are staying near Sants, Passeig de Gràcia, or a station with an easy onward metro connection. Standard integrated public-transport tickets may be used on this train, subject to current ticket rules.
Metro: useful for connections, but not usually direct
Metro line L9 Sud serves both T1 and T2. It does not travel directly to the historic center, so you will normally transfer to another line—for example at Torrassa, Collblanc, or Zona Universitària.
Allow around 45–60 minutes for most central destinations. The airport metro stations have special ticket conditions, and an ordinary single metro ticket or T-casual may not be valid for the airport section. Check the ticket-machine information before buying.
Taxi: best for door-to-door travel
Official taxis wait outside both terminals. A ride to central Barcelona usually takes 25–40 minutes, depending on traffic. The final price varies by destination, time, supplements, and traffic, but it is often worthwhile for several passengers or substantial luggage.
Use the official taxi rank rather than accepting unsolicited ride offers inside the terminal. App-based transport may also be available, but pickup locations and availability can vary.
Late-night buses
When daytime services are limited, Barcelona’s NitBus network connects the airport with the city, including routes serving Plaça de Catalunya. The exact route depends on your terminal, so verify the number shown at the airport bus stop.

- First visit or hotel near the old city: Aerobús to Plaça Catalunya
- Arriving at T2 and staying near Passeig de Gràcia or Sants: R2 Nord train
- Hotel near an L9 connection: Metro
- Several travelers, children, heavy luggage, or late arrival: Taxi
